Zerbie's Modified "Progression"
Note: This data pack was an attempt to "fix" the progression system, but upon closer examination, it appears to only make the overall advancement process more tedious. Download this data pack only if you enjoy extended grinding! No further updates are planned.
The Essence of the Modification
This data pack significantly slows down the process of creating tools and armor, increasing the value of resources like amethyst and copper. Now, crafting a wooden pickaxe doesn't immediately lead to replacement with stone, then iron, and so on. It will take time just to progress to stone tools!
This modification is suitable for players who value the survival aspect and enjoy gradually creating equipment. However, more casual players may encounter certain inconveniences, ESPECIALLY considering the requirements for diamond tool creation.
What Changes
With this data pack installed, expect:
- Longer early game progression
- Incentive to use alternative equipment (gold or modded options)
- Need to visit the Nether to create diamond tools and armor
- Increased importance of world exploration, as the higher equipment cost makes finding treasures more valuable
- Copper gains strategic significance in gameplay
- Incentive to explore the Nether due to exclusive materials
Major Changes
Tools and Weapons
- Stone pickaxes, swords, and axes require 3 leather, 5 cobblestone, and the corresponding wooden tool
- Stone shovel and hoe have simplified recipes with 1 unit of leather
- Iron tools are crafted from 5 copper, 1-3 iron ingots, and the corresponding stone tool
- Diamond tools require 5 quartz crystals, 1-3 diamonds, and the corresponding iron tool
- Shields now require an additional 2 blocks of copper
Armor
- Leather armor is cheaper to create: only 1-3 leather and wooden planks needed
- Chainmail armor is crafted from chains and one copper block
- Iron armor is upgraded via smithing table using an amethyst block, iron ingot, and corresponding chainmail armor
- Diamond armor is upgraded via smithing table with a diamond block, blaze rod, and corresponding iron armor
Nether Gameplay Features
In this hostile dimension, special recipes are available:
- Stone tools are crafted using standard vanilla recipes (exclusively from blackstone)
- Chainmail armor is obtained by surrounding leather with quartz on the crafting table
- Iron tools and armor are upgraded with a quartz block via smithing table
- Shields in the Nether require quartz blocks instead of copper blocks
Additional Changes
- Changed chain crafting recipe: requires an iron ingot and 2 copper ingots
- Rotten flesh can be smelted into leather!
