Xaero's Minimap
Important Warning
Do not use XaeroPlus with this mod! This is a third-party development that is not affiliated with me and causes critical untrackable errors and crashes. There is also information about this development being associated with server griefing groups, which can put your builds at risk.
What does this mod do?
Xaero's Minimap is a minimalist map that seamlessly integrates with Minecraft's vanilla style. Unlike many other map mods, it preserves the aesthetic of the original game, making it a harmonious addition. This is the first rotating square map in Minecraft with numerous appearance customization options.
Main Features
Appearance and Settings
You can choose the map shape - square or circular, as well as configure its size and zoom level. The map runs smoother than many alternatives and can be positioned anywhere on the screen with pixel precision, which is convenient when using other interface mods.
Two block color modes are available: Vanilla (uses colors from standard Minecraft maps) and Accurate (uses block texture and biome colors). You can also enable biome colors for the vanilla mode.
Navigation and Waypoints
The map displays compass directions and allows you to create custom waypoints that are visible both on the map and in the game world. Waypoints help you find previously visited locations or reach specific coordinates, with teleportation capability (with appropriate permissions).
You can create local and global waypoints, organize them into sets, and quickly switch between them. Waypoint sharing with other players via game chat is also available.
Entity Detection and Modes
The map displays surrounding entities: players, mobs, and items as dots with customizable colors or as icons (usually heads). There's also an automatic cave mode that activates underground and inside buildings.
Additional features include displaying chunk grid, slime chunks (marked in green), and custom light overlay for finding blocks where mobs can spawn.
Map Information
Below the map, you can display coordinates, biome name, light level, game time, and camera angles (these options are disabled by default and can be enabled in settings).
Controls and Compatibility
All key bindings are in the standard Minecraft controls menu. By default, Z temporarily enlarges the map, B creates a new waypoint, U opens the waypoints list, Y opens mod settings.
The mod is compatible with Xaero's World Map and uses map textures from that mod, which improves performance when used together.
For Servers
There are two versions of the mod: full and fair-play. The fair-play version does not display entities and cave maps, making it more suitable for PVP against players without a map.
The mod is mostly client-side, but installing it on the server side enables additional features like world identification. To restrict the use of certain features on servers, you can set potion effects or modify configuration files.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't waypoint teleportation work for me?
This may be due to lack of necessary permissions. The mod sends a chat command for teleportation (default /tp @s x y z) that requires OP status or appropriate server permissions. The command can be changed in map settings.
Why did my waypoints disappear for a specific server?
They are most likely not deleted. Check the sub-worlds list in the waypoints menu (U key). If using the world map mod, make sure the correct map is selected for the current world.
How do I add custom entity icons?
Starting from version 21.6.0, you can override default icons by creating a resource pack or mod. The relevant files are in the /assets/xaerominimap/entity/icon/ directory.
How do I prohibit cave mode and entity radar usage on my server?
Install the mod on the server side and configure the relevant options in the configuration file. You can also send special system messages to players.
How do I allow vanilla client players to join my server with the mod installed?
In the server configuration file, you can disable status effect registration, which will allow vanilla clients to join.
