Windy Days

Mod Concept

The Windy Days modification fundamentally changes the transportation system in Minecraft, with special focus on elytra usage. The main advantage is that the system is completely optional. If you don't want to interact with the new mechanics, simply fly below level 159 where wind has no effect.

Wind System

In the real world, wind direction constantly changes, but in this system it shifts once per day. Wind can blow in one of five directions, and the same direction may repeat for several consecutive days:

  • North
  • South
  • East
  • West
  • Calm (no wind movement)

Practical Examples

Let's examine several situations demonstrating how the system works:

Example 1: Tailwind

You're heading north to your friend's base, and the wind is also blowing in that direction. In this situation, climb as high as possible to use the wind for acceleration and reach your destination faster.

Example 2: Headwind

You need to fly east, but the wind is blowing westward. In this case, descend lower to minimize wind influence, as flying against the air current is practically impossible.

Example 3: Crosswind

You're flying south to your base, while the wind blows west. You'll need to slightly adjust your course eastward to compensate for drift and avoid deviating from your route.

Important: The system doesn't claim complete scientific accuracy. Realism was sacrificed for gaming enjoyment, which we believe was the right decision.

Atmospheric Layers

Troposphere

In the troposphere, you'll feel light wind influence depending on its direction. There are practically no particles or other visual effects here.

Stratosphere

In the stratosphere, wind strength increases significantly, and visible air particles begin to appear.

Mesosphere

The situation changes in the mesosphere. Besides sharply increasing wind strength, you begin taking damage due to oxygen deficiency if not using water breathing potions. This effect persists in all higher layers.

Thermosphere

The thermosphere combines oxygen deficiency with extremely strong winds and high temperatures causing combustion. This is the fastest but most dangerous layer for flight.

Exosphere

Unlike previous layers, the exosphere has no directional wind influence. Oxygen shortage remains, but instead of burning, you begin freezing.

Deadzone

This area is best avoided - elytras deactivate here, and ascending beyond a certain point results in instant death.

Layer Coordinates:

Troposphere = 160-327
Stratosphere = 328-495
Mesosphere = 496-663
Thermosphere = 664-899
Exosphere = 900-999
Deadzone = 1000+

Required Dependencies

This datapack requires installation of Apoli or alternatively Origins.

Recommended Mods

For a more interesting flight experience, we recommend installing Do a Barrel Roll. Also suggest Celestial with the "Overworld Orbit" demo mode to create the effect of actually leaving the atmosphere!
