Wearable Backpacks

This Minecraft mod adds backpacks to the game, but not ordinary ones - special ones! This project is a continuation of the mod with the same name, now adapted for Fabric and available on Modrinth. You'll find stylish and balanced backpacks here that differ from alternatives.

What makes these backpacks special?

One and only one!

Unlike other mods where you can carry multiple backpacks at once, only one is allowed here. This concept is inherited from the previous version of the mod. While this might seem inconvenient, the developers compensated for it with charming design and flexible settings.

Protection or storage?

By default, the backpack occupies the chest armor slot and provides protection comparable to leather armor. This forces the player to choose: more protection or more storage space. If desired, this function can be disabled in the settings.

Play together, share items!

A backpack on your back looks cool, but what's even cooler - other players can look into it and take needed items, like a pickaxe or torches in a mine. For this, they need to approach you from behind.

Death is fun!

Tired of losing valuable items by accidentally falling into lava? Don't worry! Items in the backpack will remain safe. Although the backpack itself can be destroyed by explosions or other players, after death it neatly drops near the death location so it can be picked up.

Color to your taste!

Backpacks can be dyed using Minecraft's dye system. Unlike some mods where only 16 basic colors are available, here you can mix dyes and create any shades.

Customize to your liking

Not sure if this mod is right for you? No problem! Wearable Backpacks offers many settings through a convenient in-game menu. This allows adapting backpacks to any play style: from small modpacks to complex hardcore experiences.

How to use

Think of Wearable Backpacks as portable chests that you can wear on your back. First, craft a backpack, place it on the ground and fill it with needed items. To equip it, sneak and break the backpack. Normal destruction of the backpack without equipping takes a bit longer.

When the backpack is equipped, you can unequip it by sneaking and right-clicking the top of a solid block with an empty hand.

You can also configure opening the backpack with a hotkey (default B).

Additional features

• The mod supports many settings, as mentioned above.
• If the backpack is used as armor, it can be enchanted like regular armor.
• Some mobs may occasionally spawn with backpacks containing random items.

For modpack and map creators

• Backpack size can be changed using NBT tag backpack:{size:[x,y]}.
• Protection level can be configured through NBT tag backpack:{armor:x}.
• The default loot table wearablebackpacks:backpack/default can be replaced.
• Backpack spawn settings for mobs can be changed: probability, loot table and color.
• You can configure backpacks to spawn on custom entities!
