Too Many Clerics

Tired of your villages constantly spawning Clerics and Nitwits while desperately lacking Farmers? Your observation is absolutely correct - in Minecraft version 1.12, the game system heavily favors selecting Clerics and Nitwits when assigning villager professions.

This modification applies an essential fix. Now newly born village inhabitants will choose their profession with equal probability.

An additional feature comes in the form of a Splash Potion of Amnesia, capable of "retraining" villagers. Throw it at a villager, and they will forget their current profession, getting a chance to choose a new one. Crafting recipe: add an Emerald to an Awkward Splash Potion.

Details of the Original Version 1.12 Profession Selection System

The profession assignment process in vanilla version operates as follows: first, a robe color is randomly chosen for the newborn villager, then the corresponding profession matching that robe color is assigned. Since different robe colors come with varying numbers of available professions, this leads to an uneven probability distribution:

  • Cleric (16.7%)
  • Nitwit (16.7%)
  • Librarian (8.3%)
  • Cartographer (8.3%)
  • Butcher (8.3%)
  • Leatherworker (8.3%)
  • Armorer (5.6%)
  • Toolsmith (5.6%)
  • Weaponsmith (5.6%)
  • Farmer (4.2%)
  • Fletcher (4.2%)
  • Fisherman (4.2%)
  • Shepherd (4.2%)

With Too Many Clerics installed, the selection frequency for any specific profession approaches 7.6%, including equal availability for careers added by other mods.
