Surrogate

IMPORTANT: This mod does not replace regular backups. It is primarily intended for mod and modpack developers.

By default, Minecraft replaces missing blocks or items with "air", which corrupts test worlds when modified content is accidentally removed.

Surrogate detects missing blocks (including blocks with entities), items in save files and replaces them with special surrogate objects that preserve all original data. When these surrogate blocks and items are saved later, the data is written back to the save file unchanged.

This allows information recovery after reloading if the problem with missing or broken mods has been resolved.

Surrogate is created for Fabric. Forge uses a different working mechanism, details can be found in the documentation.
