About the Mod
This is an enhanced version of Txni's Spice of Life: Valheim Edition mod that addresses critical bugs. The update provides better compatibility with other mods that modify player health, and configuration settings no longer reset with every game restart.
Core Concept
Spice of Life: Valheim Edition fundamentally transforms Minecraft's food system into a proper survival mechanic inspired by Valheim. Instead of the traditional hunger bar, you get three food slots that can be filled with various dishes.
New Food System
Each consumed food item occupies one slot and provides temporary boosts to health and regeneration for a set duration. You cannot eat the same food again until its timer expires or nearly runs out.
Starting Stats:
- Begin with three hearts (configurable)
- Maximum health is limited
- Gain slight movement speed boost with full stomach
All food benefit information is visible when hovering over items, and timers appear above the hotbar.
Gameplay Changes
The seemingly simple system actually overhauls game balance significantly:
- Meal Planning: You need to think about when and what to eat instead of just consuming bread
- Harder Survival: Starting with low health makes early game more challenging
- Cooking Importance: Basic foods no longer suffice for your needs
- Useful Desserts: Cake becomes valuable as quick nourishment after respawning
Stomach Clearing: Eating rotten flesh triggers vomiting, allowing you to free up slots for different foods.
Configuration
All mod aspects are customizable through configuration files:
- Food effect duration
- Health and regeneration values
- Movement speed
- Starting characteristics
Compatibility Considerations
The mod fundamentally alters Minecraft's food mechanics by disabling the standard hunger bar. Some other modifications may behave unexpectedly as a result.
Maintains compatibility with mods like AppleSkin but typically disables them by default due to the removed hunger bar rendering.
