Scroll of New Life
This mod was originally commissioned by the Rebirth of the Night development team for use in their modpack. The main addition is the introduction of a unique item called Scroll of New Life.
Feature Overview
This scroll is a single-use item that allows you to set your respawn point exactly where you activate it. Importantly, it works exclusively in the Overworld. Every new player receives one such scroll upon first entering the world. Without using additional modifications like CraftTweaker, creating additional copies is impossible.
Smart Respawn System
The main advantage of Scroll of New Life is its intelligent approach to finding respawn points. When Minecraft's standard system detects that the set respawn location is blocked, it simply teleports the player to a random point in the world with the message "your home bed was missing or obstructed".
Our mod acts much smarter: if the original respawn point is unavailable, it begins searching for the nearest suitable location for player appearance. The algorithm always strives to return you as close as possible to the originally set point.
Technical Details
The search is conducted in a spiral pattern from the original X-Z coordinates, checking blocks both above and below. By default, the system checks 20 X-Z coordinate pairs, resulting in 60 total checks (current Y level, level above, and level below for each pair). If no suitable location is found, the mod hands control back to Minecraft's standard system for random respawn.
Dynamic Adaptation
The system continuously learns: if a valid respawn point appears in the search area and the player dies again, Scroll of New Life automatically detects this and restores the priority respawn function near the set point.
Important Notes
- Using a new scroll overwrites the previous respawn point
- Setting a respawn point by any other method (except death) disables the scroll function
- All search parameters can be configured through configuration files
