ReArm: Combat Overhaul

ReArm (Remunition and Armament) is a modification that completely overhauls Minecraft's combat system by adding new mechanics and rebalancing existing weapons and enchantments. Special attention is paid to ensuring that the changes fit organically into the original game and don't appear foreign.
The mod features full customization — from disabling individual features to changing every damage parameter, cooldown time, and other characteristics. By default, values that the developer considers optimal are set, but everyone can customize everything to their preferences.
Bow
The bow is designed for high mobility and combat mastery. With a fully enchanted bow, you'll be able to easily dodge enemies and deal devastating blows with precisely calculated shots.
- New Perfect Shot mechanic — releasing the bowstring within a short time after fully charging it makes the fired arrow deal additional critical damage. A perfect shot is accompanied by a glowing trail from the arrow and a changed shot sound. Regular critical hits from the vanilla version are removed. With default settings, the bow deals significantly less damage without using perfect shots.
- New Backstep enchantment — pressing the action key shortly after hitting an enemy with an arrow pushes the player backward a distance depending on the enchantment level. Backstep can be obtained by enchanting bows in the enchanting table with rarity similar to the Flame enchantment, or in found enchanted books.
- Bow drawing sounds — drawing the bow now plays a sound similar to the crossbow loading sound. This works for both players and mobs, so you can hear when a skeleton or another player is about to shoot.
- Improved Multishot enchantment — now works only on bows and has 3 levels, each adding one arrow, up to a maximum of 5 arrows.
- Netherite Bow — bows can now be upgraded to a netherite version in the same way as tools and armor, providing fire resistance, significantly increased durability, and a new appearance.
Crossbow
The crossbow is designed for low mobility but high and consistent damage output. With a fully enchanted crossbow, you'll destroy enemies with one shot, ignoring their defenses, and demolish crowds of opponents with fireworks.
- Improved Piercing enchantment — now also ignores a percentage of the enemy's armor depending on the level, however, piercing arrows won't pass through armored enemies.
- Consistent damage — arrows fired from crossbows now deal a fixed amount of damage instead of a random value from a range as in the vanilla version. With default settings, this is an overall damage boost and makes it easier to adapt to the damage.
- Increased firework damage — firework explosion damage is significantly increased to make them effective in combat with crossbows. With default settings, a firework with one star deals slightly more damage than an arrow fired from the crossbow, and a maxed-out firework with seven stars exceeds even an arrow fired from a crossbow with Power 5 enchantment in damage.
- Increased crossbow charge time — with default settings, loading the crossbow takes noticeably longer to balance the overall crossbow enhancement. The Quick Charge enchantment still reduces loading time.
- Support for Power and Infinity — crossbows can now be enchanted with Power and Infinity.
- Netherite Crossbow — crossbows can now be upgraded to a netherite version in the same way as tools and armor, providing fire resistance, significantly increased durability, and a new appearance.
- Removed Multishot support — crossbows can no longer be enchanted with Multishot (it's now a bow enchantment).
Sword
The sword is designed for versatile combat and shield synergy. With a fully enchanted sword, you'll easily control crowds of enemies, keeping them at bay, and counter their attacks with empowered critical strikes.
- New Critical Counter mechanic — sword attacks made shortly after blocking an attack with a shield deal critical damage with increased damage. Regular critical strikes from the vanilla version are removed.
- Improved Sweeping Edge enchantment — now deals increased damage and has increased range depending on the level and the number of enemies hit by the attack.
- Removed Knockback support — swords can no longer be enchanted with Knockback (it's now an axe enchantment).
Axe
The axe is designed for very high single-target damage. With a fully enchanted axe, you'll be able to annihilate your enemy both in close combat and at a distance.
- New Crippling Throw enchantment — allows throwing the axe at an enemy, similar to a trident. The axe sticks into the enemy and slows them down. Pressing the action key recalls the axe to you, and the enemy starts taking bleeding damage. Slow intensity and bleeding damage scale with enchantment level (max 3).
- Support for Looting and Knockback — axes can now be enchanted with Looting and Knockback.
Shield
- New Parry mechanic — raising the shield to block a projectile just before it lands deflects it back toward the shooter.
- New Bash enchantment — allows performing a shield bash by pressing the action key while blocking with a shield, knocking enemies away and dealing minor damage. The intensity of the knockback and damage dealt scales with enchantment level (max 3). The shield loses durability based on how many targets were hit and goes on an 8-second cooldown.
- Netherite Shield — shields can now be upgraded to a netherite version in the same way as tools and armor, providing fire resistance, significantly increased durability, and a new appearance.
Protection Changes
ReArm rebalances most protection enchantments and introduces a new protection enchantment to make the choice of protection enchantments actually matter compared to the usual approach of using Protection 4 on all armor pieces.
- Armor can now have up to two different Protection enchantments.
- Melee Protection — the regular Protection enchantment is replaced with Melee Protection, which provides moderate resistance to most close-range physical damage sources, meaning it no longer protects against any other damage type.
- Elemental Protection — the Fire Protection enchantment is replaced with Elemental Protection, which provides high resistance to fire, lightning, and freeze damage and reduced burn time if you're set on fire.
- Magic Protection — new protection enchantment that provides high resistance to magical attacks.
- Optional setting to normalize enchantment costs for every Protection enchantment. In vanilla, the chances for each Protection enchantment to appear in the enchanting table vary wildly, with the most common being Protection and Projectile Protection, and the rest being quite rare. Enabling this setting reduces this huge gap in chances between Protection enchantments. Disabled by default.
Additional Tweaks
- Infinity fix — makes bows and crossbows enchanted with Infinity not require having an arrow in the inventory. Enabled by default.
- Craft tipped arrows with regular potions — changes the tipped arrow recipe to use regular potions instead of lingering ones. Enabled by default.
- Compatible Infinity and Mending — allows Infinity and Mending to be used on the same bow or crossbow. Disabled by default.
Recommended Mods
- Better Tridents: Turns the trident into a truly useful situational weapon.
- Potion Cauldron: Provides a very convenient way to create tipped arrows by submerging them in a cauldron filled with potion contents, which is an improvement over the provided crafting change.
- Enchantment Descriptions: ReArm has custom enchantment descriptions that reflect the changes made.
