Photonics: A raytracing engine
The Photonics mod is an extension for Iris that significantly enhances Minecraft's graphics through the implementation of its own ray tracing system. The main advantage of this solution is high performance, allowing for smoother operation compared to similar projects.
Important Information
Please note that the mod is in the alpha testing stage, so errors and compatibility issues may occur. Any modifications affecting Minecraft's rendering or chunk loading may disrupt Photonics' proper functioning.
Compatible Shaderpacks
Requires the exact version BSL v8.2.09 - other versions are not supported.
Required Components
- Iris
- BSL v8.2.09
- ModMenu
- Fabric-API
Features
Photonics implements visual effects unachievable by standard Minecraft means:
Dynamic Shadows from Light Sources Every block casts realistic shadows from all light sources, creating scenes with crisp and natural shadows.

Block Lighting Tracing Enjoy beautiful lighting from dozens of colored blocks that creates atmospheric illumination.

Path Traced Global Illumination (PTGI) Thanks to the power of ray tracing, even the most shaded areas receive realistic lighting through reflected light.

3D Blocks Since the tracing engine is voxel-based, it fully supports any block models sized 16x16x16. Custom models can also be created using MagicaVoxel.
