NoCube's Chinchillas
About the Mod
Chinchillas are amazing creatures, but until now there hasn't been a mod that adds them to Minecraft. This project fixes this injustice by offering players the chance to encounter adorable fluffy animals that perfectly fit the vanilla game style and make the world feel more alive.
Adult Chinchillas
These creatures are twice as large as their real-life counterparts and incredibly fluffy. They spawn in badlands and desert biomes, behave completely passively, and don't take fall damage. When attacked, chinchillas panic and run away with triple speed.
Every eight minutes, a chinchilla can take sand baths while standing on sand, red sand, or other blocks with "sand" material. After this procedure, they leave some chinchilla fur on the ground. Water poses a serious danger to them - when immersed, their fur gets wet and they cannot surface, leading to drowning.
Chinchillas follow players holding cactus, dead bush, or grass. If fed with one of these items, they will breed. However, if offered apples, seeds, or flowers, this will cause poisoning and the animal's death.
Like other vanilla animals, chinchillas don't despawn or respawn. When killed, an adult may drop 0-1 raw chinchilla meat (which can be cooked) and 1-3 units of fur. Drop quantity increases with the Looting enchantment.
Baby Chinchillas
Babies are the size of real chinchillas and grow into adult form in 10 minutes. If fed a glistening melon, they stop growing, allowing you to have a miniature pet.
Baby chinchillas can be caught with a bucket and released when needed. This resets the growth timer and chinchilla name, but the glistening melon effect remains. A baby under this effect has a different name color when placed in a bucket. Babies drop nothing when killed.
Blocks and Items
Chinchilla Fur - dropped by adult chinchillas after sand baths or when killed. Used for crafting string and fur blocks.
Chinchilla Fur Block - negates fall damage, serves as compact fur storage, or material for carpets.
Chinchilla Fur Carpet - like the block, protects from fall damage but has no other uses.
Chinchilla Fur Set - crafted on a smithing table from leather armor and fur blocks. Slightly weaker than iron armor but provides immunity to blindness and slowness, increases sprint speed, and reduces fall damage. However, wearing any piece of this clothing causes the player to sink in water and unable to surface.
Raw Chinchilla Meat - slightly more nutritious than raw rabbit meat. Can be cooked or fed to wolves.
Cooked Chinchilla Meat - similar in characteristics to cooked mutton. Suitable for feeding wolves or making stew.
Chinchilla Meat Stew - a new food that provides Speed and Sinking effects for 40 seconds. Crafted from cacti, chinchilla meat, and a carrot.
Bucket of Chinchilla - the result of catching a baby or non-growing chinchilla.
Potion of Sinking - causes immersion in water upon contact. Created by brewing chinchilla fur with Awkward Potion. Effect duration and level can be increased with redstone or glowstone dust.
Configuration
Mod configuration is done through game rules during world creation or in-game (for example: /gamerule chinchillaGrowTime 123). Available settings:
chinchillaGrowTime - determines the time for a chinchilla to grow from baby to adult (in seconds). Default: 600
chinchillaSandBath - determines how often adult chinchillas take sand baths (in seconds). Default: 480
