MSM Better Explosions
The Medieval Siege Machines mod provides amazing gameplay, but unfortunately, the visual and sound effects of explosions leave much to be desired. This datapack solves this issue by adding more impressive visual elements, enhanced sound effects, and adjusted explosion physics.
Main Changes
The collision mechanics of projectiles (from mortars, culverins, catapults, and trebuchets) with blocks have been completely reworked. Realistic explosion particles, powerful sound effects have been added, and for balancing purposes, the blast radius has been slightly reduced.
How It Works
Every game tick, the datapak scans a 3×3×3 area around projectiles for solid blocks. When an obstacle is detected, a creeper is created that instantly explodes, and the original projectile is removed - this prevents the mod's standard explosion. Importantly, the system DOES NOT WORK when: peaceful difficulty is set or mob griefing is disabled.
Known Issues
The script may fail when firing from certain angles, leading to the mod's standard explosions. Also, simultaneous launch of multiple projectiles may cause freezes on weak hardware due to intensive territory scanning.
Version History
Versions for 1.18.2 and 1.19.x are available! Unfortunately, v1.0.0 does not work on 1.16.5, but this issue may be fixed in future updates.
