GraveStone Mod

Core Features

Every time a player dies, a gravestone appears at the death location, preserving all inventory items. To retrieve your belongings, simply break the grave marker. In versions 1.16.3+, an additional configuration option allows recovering items by sneaking on the gravestone.

Right-clicking the gravestone displays detailed information about the player's death.

Smart Item Sorting

Starting from version 1.16.3-2.0.0, the mod automatically returns items to their original inventory slots.

Death Certificate

Each death generates a death certificate that can be disabled in configuration. The document includes:

  • Name of the deceased player
  • Dimension where death occurred
  • Date and time of death
  • Coordinates of death location
  • Image of the character with equipment at time of death
  • Complete list of inventory items at death

Automatic removal of the death certificate after item recovery is also configurable.

Gravestone Customization

Gravestones can be obtained as items using Silk Touch enchantment when breaking them, or crafted. Renaming in an anvil allows adding custom text to the grave marker.

Flexible Configuration

Configuration files offer numerous customization options:

  • Text color on gravestone
  • Display of skull on grave marker
  • Death certificate creation upon death
  • Blocks that can be replaced by gravestones
  • Removal of death certificate from inventory after breaking gravestone
  • Restriction of gravestone breaking to owner only
  • Spawning of player ghost when grave is broken
  • Ghost behavior: defending player or attacking them
  • Item recovery by sneaking on gravestone
  • Automatic sorting of items to original slots

Recovering Lost Items

For cases of item loss, a restoration command is provided:

Syntax: /restore <player> <death_id> <replace|add>

The player parameter specifies whose inventory to restore.

The death_id parameter is the unique death identifier. It can be found by enabling advanced tooltips (F3 + H) and opening the death certificate. The identifier is also logged if gravestone placement fails.

The final parameter determines whether to replace the player's current inventory or add items to existing inventory.

Administrators can obtain a pre-made restoration command by sneaking and right-clicking the death certificate.

Special Cases

When dying inside a block, the gravestone is placed in the nearest empty space above. If no free space exists or the player is above build limit, items drop normally.

When falling into the void, the grave marker is placed at the lowest point in the world where blocks can be placed. If no free space is available, it moves to the nearest available position above.
