Better Grinder (archive)

This version represents an archival release of a project previously available on CurseForge. The mod is preserved for historical purposes and no future support is planned.

Better Grinder is an enhanced version of the Plain Grinder mod by Lothrazar. While I respect the original concept, it lacked important features and had significant shortcomings that disappointed me. Through collaboration with Ferri_annus (I handled textures while programming was assigned to a specialist), an improved version - Better Grinder - was created!

What does this mod offer? It's a simple addition that introduces a basic ore grinder to the game, inspired by the quartz grinder from Applied Energistics 2. You place the grinder block, attach a handle to it, and each full rotation of the handle completes one processing recipe. By default, the mod includes several simple recipes that allow grinding vanilla ores into dust (2 units per ore), which can then be smelted into ingots, increasing metal yield from a single ore!

However, the standard functionality is quite minimalistic. The main purpose of Better Grinder is for use by modpack creators who can add their own recipes through datapacks or CraftTweaker.

Key Improvements Compared to the Original

Better Grinder fixes the main issues of the original mod and adds new capabilities:

• Uses the standard recipe system, allowing removal of default recipes through datapacks or CraftTweaker

• Added support for probability-based outputs - although this feature is not used by default, pack developers can create recipes with a certain percentage chance of obtaining primary or secondary results

• Added a secondary output slot - also not used by default, but allows adding a potential second processing product

• Compatibility with handles from other mods through the block tag system. Out of the box, handles from Create and Supplementaries are supported, but handles from other mods can be added to the plaingrinder:cranks tag for compatibility

• Built-in CraftTweaker support - significantly simplifies creating custom recipes

• Hopper compatibility - items can be loaded from the sides and extracted from below

• Improved textures

Recipe Examples

Example recipe for CraftTweaker:

// This recipe will require a wooden axe, output 2 clocks as primary result, and with 50% chance - powered rails as secondary result

Example recipe for datapack:

// This recipe will consume 1 stick and output 64 diamonds as primary result, and with 50% chance - 32 emeralds as secondary result
