Basalt Crusher
![]()
A vanilla-friendly Fabric mod that brings back the glory and usefulness of basalt.
Creation Story
The mod's idea was born during a discussion in an IRC chat where players shared their impressions of basalt deltas in the Nether. Participants complained about the excess of basalt, which found almost no use in the game except for decorative pillars in tunnels. It was then that the idea emerged to create a device for processing this material.
Main Features
Basalt Crusher performs one simple but important function - it turns various types of basalt into gravel. The mechanism requires consumable jaw liners that are installed in special slots.
The mod also includes an additional device - the Grizzly, which performs sorting functions. Placed under the crusher, it converts a quarter of the obtained gravel into sand. When fed coarse dirt, the Grizzly extracts gravel from it.
For finer grinding, a Gravel Mill is provided, which uses special rods to turn gravel into sand.
Terrestria Integration
With the Terrestria mod installed, Basalt Crusher adds additional processing capabilities for volcanic rocks from the Volcanic Islands biome. Volcanic rock is crushed into black gravel, which is then turned into black sand. Black gravel yields obsidian shards with a certain chance, similar to how regular gravel yields flint.
Usage Features
Starting from version 0.2.0, the mod allows loading a stack of jaw liners into the left slot, from where they move one by one to the right slots for wear. It's worth noting that Minecraft doesn't support stacking items that can wear out or be enchanted, so some peculiar behavior of this mechanism may be observed in the inventory.
The mod is designed in a minimalist vanilla style and requires significant resources for efficient operation. An iron jaw liner processes 250 basalt blocks at a cost of 31 iron ingots, making an iron farm necessary for mass gravel production.
